Nederland in ideeën, 2015

online collection of beauty ideals

Nederland in ideeën is an online exhibition following the publication of the same name, in which 98 scientists, entrepreneurs and artists share their answer to the question “What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?”. It offers free access to the entire content of the book and contextualizes the discussed topics through supplementary images and hyperlinks.

The design presents a grid of 102 tiles, one for each of the authors and 4 special ones for navigation. The grid is dynamic and reacts to the position of the cursor by resizing its elements to always magnify one object in focus. Each content tile serves as a catalog card that expands through clicking in order to expose the article and related imagery. Additionally, the visitor can filter the tiles according to categories.

The landing page lists the entire content of the publication. It works like an interactive table of content that gives access to the different contributions. Clicking on any tile expands it to full size and reveals the respective content. Text contributions include a visual preview of the discussed topic. Back and next buttons allow the user to continue reading in the expanded view mode. Scrolling text simultaneously scrolls the image. Each preview links to the original image source with further information. Text contributions can be filtered by categories. Contributions of the same category are highlighted in red.
